In ihrem Kunstschaffen erforscht Emily Kelly den Zusammenhang von Materialität, Raum und der Verkörperung von Emotionen durch Skulptur und ortsspezifischer Installation. Dabei entsteht eine eigenständige Sprache, in der Bedeutung zurück- und Affekt in den Vordergrund tritt.
Ihre Praxis folgt intuitiven Impulsen, dabei verbinden sich natürliche mit industriellen Elementen zu hybriden Konstruktionen, die zwischen Zeichnung und Objekt oszillieren. Der dabei entstehende Berührungspunkt zwischen diesen Elementen rückt Strukturen wie Verbindung, Grenzen, Trennung und Einheit in den Fokus.
Ein fundamentaler Faktor in Kelly’s Arbeit ist, dass ihr eigener Körper zum Werkzeug wird und ein Alphabet aus ihrer Anatomie entsteht. Das passiert durch repetitive Handarbeit, die sowohl Abweichungen, als auch Imperfektionen sichtbar macht. Dadurch werden die Materialen zu Trägern, die mit den Berührungen aufgeladen werden und sich so in etwas anderes verwandeln, basierend auf Kellys Alphabet.
Für Fight or Flight III zeigt sie eine Videoinstallation, die die innere erotische Kraft eines Menschen visualisiert, inspiriert von Audre Lorde.
WER IST EMILY KELLY?
Emily Kelly (*1997) ist eine belgische bildende Künstlerin, die in Berlin lebt und arbeitet. Sie absolvierte ihren Master in Bildhauerei an der Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerpen (2021) und erhielt dort den Preis der Bildhauerei. Sie hatte mehrere Gruppen und Duo Shows sowohl in Berlin, als auch in Brüssel und nahm an internationalen Residenzen teil.

Her practice navigates structures of materiality, space, and the physicality of emotion through sculpture and site-specific installation. Within this field, a personal and decisive language emerges—one in which definitive meaning recedes and affect becomes increasingly pronounced.
Her work follows an intuitive pulse, where the intertwining of natural and industrial elements gives rise to hybrid constructions that oscillate between object and drawn image. By concentrating on the point of contact between two or more elements, the works investigate structures of connection, boundaries, division, and unity.
Drawing their vocabulary from anatomy, the body becomes a fundamental element in the practice— through repetitive manual labor, which reveals deviations and imperfections. Within this logic, the materials themselves hold the memory of contact and the body operates as a creative criterion.
For fight or flight III she presents a video installation inspired by the essay Uses of the Erotic, the Erotic as Power by Audre Lorde, a visual representation of the activation of an internal erotic force.
WHO IS EMILY KELLY?
Emily Kelly (b. 1997) is a Belgian visual artist based in Berlin. She holds an MA inSculpture from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (2021), where she received theSculpture Department Prize. She has exhibited in Belgium and Germany, with solo exhibitions in Antwerp and group/duo exhibitions in Berlin and Brussels, and has participated in residencies in Brussels and Berlin/Brandenburg.
